Today, I started work as a delivery boy for a local food chain. I've thought about it, and I'm not actually going to name the chain here; I like the company so far, but in the possibility that I will come to not like them, I figure I'll not name them now, and save time editting their name out if I wind up bitching later.
However, the most bitterly ironic moment of the day came while at work. I'm trying to get some salads together, so they'll be ready if someone orders them. There's a radio playing, and when the cooks aren't in, it's usually tuned to a modern/alternative rock station. Good music, though I'm not fond of Clearchannel. However, an ad comes on the radio for San Jacinto College, touting how college graduates make 74% more than non-college graduates. So, I'm working my first minimum wage job in years, having been a teacher for the last 3, and listening to how much more college graduates made.
That more or less summed up the experience. With tips, I did clear a bit more than minimum wage tonight, and that doesn't include trip charges. And its work, which means some more money for the household, which is another plus.
But, dammit, fate didn't need to rub it in.
